Mandaluyong places COVID-19 hotspot under week-long lockdown

Mandaluyong City placed Barangay Addition Hills under a week-long 'total lockdown' starting May 7 to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The compound in Barangay Addition Hills recorded the highest number of cases in Mandaluyong with 58 confirmed cases and 6 deaths as of May 6, making it a hotspot for the virus.

During the lockdown, residents are not allowed to leave their homes except for emergencies, and all establishments including markets and grocery stores are closed. Police were deployed to enforce the rules.

The total lockdown will last until May 13, during which mass testing of around 3,000 residents will be conducted by the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU).

First-time offenders will only receive a reprimand, but beyond that they may face detention and charges.
