Shoppers defy social distancing at Blumentritt market

Early Wednesday morning, hundreds of people lined up at the Blumentritt Market to shop under government-set schedules designed to prevent overcrowding during the enhanced community quarantine.

Despite rules requiring social distancing and face masks, many shoppers failed to observe these measures, leading to crowded conditions.

Senior citizens, pregnant women, and individuals with disabilities were barred from entering the market while designated shoppers had to wear masks and bring their quarantine pass.

The Manila Public Information Office reported that consumers flocked to Blumentritt due to Balintawak Market's closure.

Manuel Zarcal, acting secretary to the mayor, along with barangay officials and a police officer, convened to discuss new measures and restrictions to address the overcrowding.
