Marcos wants to meet Yulo to discuss athlete support

President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. expressed interest in meeting with Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo to discuss how the government can support athletes and improve medal performance in future Olympics.

Marcos emphasized that he will consult Yulo on additional support needed for athletes, stating that Yulo is 'the best person' to advise on such matters following his historic double-gold medal victory at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The President noted that Yulo has already received P36 million from the Philippine government and various private companies under Republic Act 10699 and other incentives, and is considering offering more support.

Marcos highlighted his personal goal of increasing Filipino success in sports, asking Yulo about necessary changes or funding to achieve this while expressing optimism that Yulo will continue to dominate international competitions.

Yulo's achievements include winning two gold medals in men's floor exercise and vault finals at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, marking the Philippines' second Olympic gold after Hidilyn Diaz's victory in 2020.
