SEA nations win 16 Olympic medals; PH tops with 4

Southeast Asian nations achieved their best medal haul at a single Olympics with 16 medals: 5 golds, 3 silvers, and 8 bronzes.

The Philippines led the way with two golds and two bronze medals, breaking records in gymnastics and boxing, and celebrated its century of Olympic participation with its strongest performance ever.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. honored Team Philippines at Malacañang Palace on Tuesday night, presenting Presidential Citations to athletes like Carlos Yulo, who also received the Presidential Medal of Merit for his two gold medals in gymnastics.

Marcos announced additional cash incentives: PHP2 million each for all Olympians from the Office of the President and PAGCOR, with Petecio and Villegas receiving an extra PHP2 million for their bronze medals.

The delegation's notable performances included Carlos Yulo, EJ Obiena, Bianca Pagdanganan, Lauren Hoffman, Elreen Ando, Nesthy Petecio, and Aira Villegas, among others.
