Marcos Jr. congratulates Petecio for Philippines' fourth Olympic medal

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. congratulated Filipina boxer Nesthy Petecio for winning a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, bringing the Philippines' total medal count to four.

Petecio's victory follows her split decision loss in the semifinals against Poland's Julia Szeremeta on Thursday, August 8, but President Marcos praised her resilience and dedication.

Marcos highlighted Petecio’s performance as an inspiration to Filipinos and emphasized that the whole country is proud of her achievements.

First Lady Liza Marcos also congratulated both Villegas and Petecio, noting their performances have elevated the profile of women in Philippine sports.

The Philippines now has four medals in the 2024 Summer Olympics: two golds from Carlos Yulo in men's artistic gymnastics, a bronze from Aira Villegas in boxing, and another bronze from Nesthy Petecio.
