Mapua University wins first NCAA Season 99 women's volleyball match

Mapua University secured its first win in the NCAA Season 99 women's volleyball tournament, defeating San Sebastian College (SSC) with a score of 25-20, 25-23, 25-18 on Tuesday.

Sophomore Roxie dela Cruz led Mapua with a match-high 18 points from 16 attacks and two blocks, while rookies Raissa Janel Ricablanca and Freigh Anne Garcia contributed 13 and 11 points respectively in their collegiate debut.

Coach Clarence Esteban praised Dela Cruz for her leadership role in mentoring the new players and highlighted her crucial contributions to last year's Final Four stint, emphasizing the team's need to avoid going into fifth sets.

Mapua now shares an early lead in the season standings alongside Perpetual Help and defending champion College of St. Benilde, with Coach Esteban expressing optimism for a podium finish or even championship this season.
