Cebu City records 191 new Covid-19 cases, total surpasses 1,280

Cebu City recorded 191 new coronavirus cases as of Wednesday, May 6, bringing the total number to 1,280.

The majority of these new cases were found in four sitios within Barangay Mambaling, which now has the highest number of confirmed cases at 433.

Barangay Luz follows with 193 cases after a resident from Sitio Cabantan tested positive.

On Tuesday, May 5, Cebu City surpassed 1,000 confirmed cases with an additional 188 new infections, making it the city with the second highest number of cases in the country after Quezon City.

The surge is attributed to the city government's efforts to ramp up testing, even for asymptomatic individuals, as Mayor Edgar Labella noted that about 80% of those who tested positive did not show symptoms.
