Lopez’s clutch play leads UP to UAAP title

Francis Lopez's crucial triple near the end of UAAP Season 87 men's basketball championship Game 3 secured University of the Philippines' 66-62 victory over La Salle on Sunday.

Lopez, who scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, redeemed himself after missing key shots in Game 2, expressing gratitude to his teammates and coaches for their continued belief in him despite facing criticism.

UP head coach Goldwin Monteverde expressed delight in Lopez's triumph over challenges, praising his determination throughout the Finals.

Quentin Millora-Brown contributed with two crucial free throws at the end, while point guard JD Cagulangan was named Finals MVP for his 12-point performance and overall leadership.

The victory marked UP's successful redemption after losing to La Salle in the previous season and set a new collegiate basketball game attendance record of 25,248 spectators.
