LPP pushes for LGUs' direct COVID-19 vaccine procurement

The League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP) is advocating for local government units (LGUs) to be allowed to directly procure COVID-19 vaccines from manufacturers.

During a House Committee on Health inquiry, LPP President Marinduque Governor Presbitero Velasco Jr. emphasized the need for clear national government authority to enable LGUs to negotiate directly with suppliers.

Velasco also noted that while 70% of the national population has reserved vaccines, LGUs aim to secure additional doses for their remaining constituents.

Additionally, the LPP is assisting provincial governments in securing vaccines through a tripartite agreement with the national government and manufacturers.

A survey form was sent to all governors to indicate funding allocations and preferred vaccine types.
