DLSU clinches top UAAP men's basketball seed with win over UP

De La Salle University secured the top seed in the UAAP Season 87 men's basketball tournament with a decisive 77-66 victory over the University of the Philippines (UP) on Sunday, November 10, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Kevin Quiambao led DLSU with 15 points, five rebounds, and three assists, while Mike Phillips contributed 14 points, 10 rebounds, an assist, and a steal.

Despite trailing by 11 points in the second quarter, La Salle improved their defense in the second half to limit UP's scoring to just eight points in the third quarter.

JD Cagulangan scored a team-high 22 points for UP, but it was not enough as they fell to 9-3 and will enter the Final Four as the No. 2 seed.

With this win, La Salle also swept UP in the elimination round and improved their record to an undefeated 12-0 with only one game left before entering the playoffs.

Coach Topex Robinson emphasized that while securing the top seed is a testament to their preparation for the Final Four, it does not guarantee championship status as they face significant challenges ahead.
