Karding's agri damage tops P3B

Super Typhoon Karding caused P3.12 billion worth of damage to the agricultural sector in several regions of Luzon and Visayas as of Monday.

The affected areas include Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Bicol, Cordillera, and Western Visayas.

Rice was the most impacted commodity with losses amounting to P2.05 billion affecting 134,205 metric tons of rice across 163,162 hectares.

High-value crops such as fruits, vegetables, legumes, and spices suffered P831.29 million in damages, while fisheries were impacted by P116.55 million.

Other affected sectors include corn with P65.4 million in losses, livestock and poultry at P12.86 million, and agricultural infrastructures, machinery, and equipment totaling P38.5 million.
