Kanlaon Volcano eruption causes ashfall in Negros Occidental

Ashfall was reported in several areas of Negros Occidental following the explosive eruption of Kanlaon Volcano on Tuesday morning.

OCD 6 director Raul Fernandez said ashfall affected Barangay Sag-Ang in La Castellana, Barangays Yubo and Ara-al in La Carlota, Bago City, and Barangay Cubay in La Carlota according to PHIVOLCS chief Teresito Bacolcol.

Fernandez also reported that evacuations are underway in areas outside the six-kilometer permanent danger zone, with possible school suspensions due to the ashfall.

Bacolcol warned that inhaling volcanic ash, which is made up of small rocks and minerals, can be dangerous for people with respiratory issues and may cause irritation or exacerbate symptoms like asthma.
