PHP63M aid for LGUs hit by Mt. Kanlaon eruption

Local government units affected by Mt. Kanlaon's eruption will receive PHP63 million in additional financial assistance from the Office of the President.

OCD Administrator Ariel Nepomuceno confirmed that the funds are needed to support local chief executives and internally displaced persons (IDPs) who have been evacuated since December 9, 2024.

The latest explosive eruption on April 8 caused heavy ashfall in La Carlota City, with over 1,770 families currently staying in evacuation centers across Negros Occidental.

Negros Occidental initially received PHP50 million from the OP for IDP needs and Mayor Rhummyla Nicor-Mangilimutan of La Castellana requested additional funds to sustain daily necessities.

Kanlaon Volcano remains under Alert Level 3, indicating potential future explosive eruptions or lava flows according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
