PNP deploys 366 officers for Kanlaon Volcano evacuation

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has deployed 366 policemen to assist in the evacuation of residents affected by Kanlaon Volcano's recent eruption.

Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil, PNP chief, stated that the preemptive evacuation began immediately as a safety measure for communities within a six-kilometer danger zone.

PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo reported Thursday that 90 police officers are stationed at evacuation centers in La Castellana, La Carlota, Bago, and Canlaon City to support the 9,275 evacuees.

The remaining police force is aiding local government units (LGUs) and disaster response bodies in the affected areas, with a strict no-entry policy within the permanent danger zone to prevent incidents.

Fajardo noted that the PNP remains vigilant against looting in abandoned areas while conducting site inspections and ensuring evacuees receive essential support like water and other resources.
