CAAP warns flights to avoid Kanlaon Volcano due to eruption

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has advised flights to avoid Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island following its explosive eruption on Tuesday, April 8.

A new Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) was issued by CAAP effective from 2:08 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9 until 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 10.

The NOTAM restricts flights within vertical limits from the surface up to 11,000 feet near the volcano due to potential hazards posed by volcanic ash and sudden explosive eruptions.

Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology maintains Alert Level 3 for Kanlaon Volcano, indicating a high level of unrest with volcanic earthquakes and forceful steam or ash ejections.

Flight operators are advised to exercise caution and avoid flying near the volcano to ensure safety.
