Imee Marcos files for re-election as independent senator

Senator Imee Marcos filed her candidacy for a second term on Wednesday, October 2, by submitting her certificate of candidacy to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) under the Nacionalista Party (NP).

Accompanied by her sons Borgy and Michael Manotoc, as well as her mother former First Lady Imelda Marcos, Senator Marcos emphasized her desire to remain independent during the campaign despite NP's alliance with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s Partido Federal ng Pilipinas.

When asked about potentially joining the administration coalition Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas, she stated that she chose independence to avoid being a supporter of any particular group, promising to remain free and firm.

Despite her withdrawal from the coalition, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. expressed support for his sister's candidacy, acknowledging her need for freedom in campaigning.

In 2019, Imee placed 8th in the Senate race with over 15 million votes and currently ranks 10th to 13th according to recent Pulse Asia Research survey.
