House elects new committee chairs, renews Romualdez as speaker

The House of Representatives elected new chairpersons for its standing committees at the start of the 20th Congress.

Rep. Martin Romualdez was reelected as House speaker when the 20th Congress convened on July 28.

Among the newly appointed committee chairs are Rep. Maria Carmen Zamora for Accounts, Rep. Mikaela Angela Suansing for Appropriations, and Rep. Jonathan Keith Flores for Dangerous Drugs.

Rep. Joel Chua retained his position as chair of the Good Government and Public Accountability (Blue Ribbon) Committee, which investigates public officials' conduct.

The Human Rights Committee, led by Rep. Bienvenido Abante Jr., continues to oversee issues related to human rights protection and abuse prevention.

Other committees include Public Information chaired by Rep. Lordan Suan and Public Order and Safety headed by Rep. Rolando Valeriano, both of which address various aspects of public safety and information regulation.
