House elects Rep Ferdinand Martin Romualdez as Speaker

The House of Representatives elected Leyte 1st District Representative Ferdinand Martin Romualdez as Speaker of the 20th Congress on Monday.

Romualdez received 269 votes with 34 abstentions in a vote led by Quezon 2nd District Representative David 'Jay-Jay' Suarez.

Suarez highlighted Romualdez's leadership during the previous congress, emphasizing his resolve and wisdom in steering legislative efforts.

He noted that under Romualdez's guidance, the House of Representatives became more responsive to national needs and the voices of Filipinos, fostering unity and progress.

Romualdez is credited with championing landmark reforms, enhancing cooperation between the legislature and executive branches, and passing measures aligned with the goals of Bagong Pilipinas for inclusive growth.

Suarez urged colleagues to support Romualdez's Speakership, citing his dignified, decisive, and compassionate leadership.
