Marcos relatives lead House: Romualdez Speaker, Sandro Marcos Majority Leader

The House of Representatives has elected key leaders for the 20th Congress, with President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr.’s relatives securing top positions.

Leyte’s 1st District Representative Martin Romualdez was elected Speaker on Monday, July 28, with 269 votes, while Sandro Marcos from Ilocos Norte’s 1st District became Majority Leader.

Quezon’s 2nd District Representative Jay-jay Suarez will serve as Senior Deputy Speaker, and Lorenz Defensor from Iloilo’s 3rd District will be the Senior Deputy Majority Leader.

During Tuesday's plenary session, the majority bloc also elected deputy and assistant majority leaders without objection.

The new leadership includes several former impeachment prosecutors and members of the 'Young Guns' bloc who previously held assistant majority leader positions.
