Expert sees WHO lifting COVID public health emergency this year

An infectious diseases expert sees a high possibility for the World Health Organization to lift the public health emergency status of COVID-19 this year.

Dr. Rontgene Solante notes that recent cases are mild, with symptoms lasting only 3-4 days and most hospitalizations due to preexisting conditions rather than severe COVID pneumonia.

Solante also mentions increased confidence among medical facilities and health workers in managing patients and the importance of continued measures like optional mask-wearing, antiviral availability, and vaccination.
