Philippines logs 1,206 new COVID cases, 74 deaths in past week

The Department of Health (DOH) reported 1,206 new coronavirus infections in the Philippines from January 23 to 29, marking a 36% decrease compared to the previous week.

Only one case was classified as severe or critical, bringing the total number of active severe and critical cases to 456.

The DOH also verified 74 additional deaths during this period, with six occurring in the past two weeks while the rest were backlogged since September 2020.

Despite fewer infections, non-ICU bed utilization increased from 19.1% to 19.5%, while ICU bed utilization decreased from 16.1% to 14%. Over 73 million Filipinos or 94.54% of the target population are fully vaccinated, with 21 million receiving booster shots.
