Escudero: VP Sara’s impeachment not delayed by ICC

Senate President Francis Escudero stated that the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte will not be delayed or affected if the International Criminal Court orders the arrest of Senator Ronald dela Rosa.

Escudero emphasized that there is no legal reason for a delay, and he assured that the Senate cannot serve as sanctuary for those facing ICC arrest warrants.

The president also noted that the trial should proceed without being influenced by any potential developments in Rodrigo Duterte's ICC case.

Escudero pointed out that if the impeachment proceedings follow the usual pre-trial arrangements, they could conclude before the three-month recess period ends.

Senate chief Francis Escudero maintained that there is no legal impediment for Vice President Sara Duterte to be her father's lawyer at the ICC while simultaneously undergoing impeachment trial in the Senate.

The Senate plans to adhere closely to existing impeachment rules during the trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, with only limited amendments allowed.
