Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment trial prep underway at Senate

House Secretary General Reginald Velasco inspected the Senate premises on Tuesday to prepare for Vice President Sara Duterte's impending impeachment trial scheduled to begin on July 30.

Velasco and Senate Secretary Renato Bantug visited the Session Hall, expressing satisfaction with its current setup, noting that it was also used during the impeachment trial of former Chief Justice Renato Corona in May 2012.

The Senate has approved the House prosecution panel's request for rooms to use in preparing for Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment trial. Among these is the Sen. Arturo M. Tolentino Room, which will serve as the prosecution panel's office during the proceedings.

Velasco confirmed that they are requesting two basic rooms for the House Prosecution Panel and Secretariat Support Group, with potential additional requirements pending further discussions, including a possible holding room for witnesses.

House Speaker Martin Romualdez assured that proceedings would be conducted fairly and in strict adherence to constitutional provisions.
