Ambo damage to agriculture soars to P1.04B

Damage caused by Typhoon Ambo to the agriculture sector has surged to P1.04 billion as of Monday, May 18.

Initial reports on Sunday showed damages at P185.53 million, with losses increasing due to updated data from CALABARZON, Bicol, and Eastern Visayas.

The total volume production loss is now 62,228 metric tons covering 20,652 hectares of agricultural areas and affecting 21,655 farmers and fisherfolk.

In Bicol alone, PHP80 million worth of crops were destroyed, with Masbate suffering the highest losses at PHP37 million.

Eastern Visayas reported P6 million in damages to commodities like root crops, cassava, bananas, vegetables, rice, and corn.
