Duterte returns to Davao, defends trip as work and family visit

President Rodrigo Duterte returned to Davao City over the weekend to monitor the coronavirus situation in Mindanao and spend time with his family.

Duterte's daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, defended her father's trip, stating that as president he is a top frontliner.

Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said Duterte’s flight was an exemption for the highest official of the land, emphasizing adherence to health protocols.

The President is expected to return to Manila by Tuesday to attend a meeting on the coronavirus situation.
