DOH: Data harmonization leads to surge in reported Covid-19 deaths

The Department of Health (DOH) reported 162 coronavirus deaths on Sunday, July 12, which is attributed to improved data harmonization with local government units (LGUs).

DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire clarified that the increase in reported deaths does not reflect actual daily occurrences but rather better data coordination.

Vergeire noted that LGUs have been recording deaths and recoveries independently, and this information is now being integrated into DOH's national tally.

The DOH expects more increases in reported deaths and recoveries as additional data from LGUs continue to be shared.
