Gov’t aims 1M COVID tests by July

The government aims to conduct one million COVID-19 tests by July.

As of June 23, the country has already conducted 612,571 tests, up from just 17,414 in March.

Testing czar Vince Dizon announced that over one million test kits have arrived, enabling an expansion of testing to non-medical frontliners and asymptomatic individuals.

The daily testing capacity has increased to 51,302 as of June 19, surpassing the target of 50,000 tests by end-June.

The positivity rate has dropped from 20% in March to nearly 5%, indicating improvement in managing cases according to WHO guidelines.

Turnaround time for test results is now 48-72 hours compared to more than two weeks in March.
