DepEd suspends teacher accused of slapping student who died

DepEd has suspended a teacher accused of slapping a 14-year-old student who later died for 90 days without pay.

The suspension was confirmed by DepEd spokesperson Asec. Francis Bringas and Undersecretary Michael Poa.

Francis Jay Gumikib reportedly complained of headaches six days after the incident and went into a coma, dying on October 2.

Teachers Dignity Coalition chairperson Benjo Basas emphasized the need for confidentiality in cases involving teachers and students under the Magna Carta for Teachers.
