Delta variant overtakes other coronavirus strains in PH

The highly contagious Delta coronavirus variant may soon become the predominant strain in the Philippines, accounting for almost half of tested samples.

According to Philippine Genome Center Executive Director Cynthia Saloma, about 42% of total sequences are now Delta, with half of recent samples being of the Delta type.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire confirmed that the proportion of Delta cases is on the rise and has overtaken other variants such as Alpha and Beta.
