DOH: Region 8 records 48 new Covid-19 variant cases

As of Friday, Aug 13, 2021, the number of Delta variant cases in Eastern Visayas (Region 8) has risen to 11 with a new case detected in Borongan City.

All confirmed Delta variant cases are considered local transmissions as none have travel history outside the region since the start of the pandemic.

The DOH emphasized the importance of active monitoring, surveillance, and contact tracing for all confirmed cases to prevent further spread.

Additionally, 48 new cases of various Covid-19 variants were reported in Region 8 by Wednesday, Aug 11, with B.1.1.63 having the highest number at 11 cases followed closely by Delta variant cases at 10.

Despite these findings, DOH surveillance nurse Roderick Boyd Cerro stated that there is low evidence of local transmission of variants of concern in the region.
