Filipina rower Joanie Delgaco advances to Olympic quarterfinals but finishes sixth

Filipina rower Joanie Delgaco advanced to the quarterfinals but finished sixth, ending her medal hopes at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Tuesday, July 30.

Delgaco clocked seven minutes and 58.30 seconds in her heat, advancing only to the semifinals C/D placement races.

Reigning champion Emma Twigg of New Zealand topped the heat with a time of seven minutes and 26.89 seconds, followed by Katharina Janzen of Switzerland (7:31.12) and Virginia Diaz of Spain (7:34.01).

Delgaco's journey remains significant as she qualified for Paris through her fourth-place finish at the 2024 Asia Oceania Qualification Tournament, receiving support from Philippine Rowing Association president Patrick Gregorio.

Despite a challenging performance in the quarterfinals, Delgaco continues to compete in classification rounds to determine her final ranking at the Summer Games.
