Filipina rower Joanie Delgaco finishes 20th in Olympics

Filipina rower Joanie Delgaco concluded her Olympic debut on Friday, finishing 20th in the women's single sculls competition.

Delgaco secured second place in Final D with a time of 7:43.83, narrowly missing first place behind Paraguay's Alejandra Alonso Alderete who finished at 7:42.09.

Despite not winning a medal, Delgaco expressed happiness over her performance and was offered an Olympic Solidarity scholarship by FISA Development Head Daniela Gomes for her exemplary showing in the Paris Olympics.

Earlier, Delgaco had secured a fifth-place finish in semifinals C/D and advanced to the quarterfinals after topping the repechage heat with a time of 7:55.00 last Sunday.

Delgaco's historic run as the first female rower from the Philippines in the Summer Games concluded with her finishing fourth in the classification heat at 7:56.26, narrowly missing an outright quarterfinal spot.
