Dela Rosa expects Duterte VP impeachment

Senator Ronald dela Rosa expressed his expectation that Vice President Sara Duterte will face an impeachment trial at the Senate.

Dela Rosa told reporters he anticipates the House of Representatives will proceed with the impeachment complaints and pass them to the Senate.

Progressive groups Bagong Alyansang Makabayan and Akbayan have recently filed complaints alleging betrayal of public trust against Duterte.

When asked about his stance, Dela Rosa reiterated that he expects the impeachment efforts to be affirmed by the lower chamber but cannot intervene as President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. reportedly did.

Despite being a close ally of Duterte, Dela Rosa pledged to remain objective and let lawmakers handle their responsibilities during the impeachment process.

Senate President Francis Escudero confirmed the Senate is obliged to take action on any impeachment complaint filed, even during adjournment.

Dela Rosa emphasized that while more than 10 senators initially voted to increase the OVP's budget, the House version was adopted due to strong words from the Senate leadership.
