70 reps file 2nd impeachment complaint against VP Sara Duterte

A second impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte was filed by over 70 representatives and various progressive groups at the House of Representatives on Wednesday, December 4.

The complaint accuses Duterte of betraying public trust through her alleged misuse of PHP612.5 million in confidential funds during her tenure as Education Secretary, citing specific instances such as spending P125 million worth of confidential funds in just eleven days in 2022.

Organizations like Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) and families of extrajudicial killings victims held a protest outside the House Representatives South Gate, calling for accountability from Duterte and President Marcos Jr.

The filing comes amid growing political rifts between influential clans, with some analysts suggesting that upcoming midterm elections could influence how lawmakers proceed with the impeachment complaint.
