De La Salle secures second place in UAAP women's volleyball

De La Salle University solidified its second-place position in the UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball tournament with a decisive 25-22, 25-13, 25-23 victory over the University of the East on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Lady Spikers won their third straight match to improve their season record to 8-3, maintaining their gap with league leader National University which stands at 9-1 and avoiding a logjam with fellow contenders UST (7-4) and FEU (6-4).

Despite persistent attempts from the Lady Red Warriors in the first set, De La Salle held its composure throughout the game.

Angel Canino led the team with 16 points, while Shevana Laput added 14 points. Jillian Santos also contributed six points after a limited playing time earlier in her UAAP season.

With three elimination round games remaining, De La Salle has strengthened its playoff bonus bid for a twice-to-beat advantage in the semis, while the University of the East remains without a win after 11 matches.
