Bello dismisses OFWs scavenging reports

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III dismissed reports that stranded OFWs in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, were scavenging for food.

Bello stated that Filipinos would not eat garbage and instead suggested they are collecting rejected fruits from grocery stores.

Philippine Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Adnan Alonto echoed Bello's stance, clarifying that the leftover produce is not trash but substandard fruit deliveries.

Alonto also criticized a video showing an OFW scavenging as it could expose workers to criminal action and cyberlibel under local laws.
