Ateneo edges out shorthanded UST, 67-64, in UAAP men's basketball

Ateneo de Manila University secured a victory over the shorthanded University of Santo Tomas in the UAAP Season 87 men's basketball tournament on Saturday, October 19.

The Blue Eagles won by a narrow margin, 67-64, at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion in Manila, improving their record to 3-6 and tying them with FEU Tamaraws (3-6) while overtaking NU Bulldogs (2-7).

Coach Tab Baldwin praised his team's performance, noting that they played a 'gutsy' game despite the challenging road environment.

Sean Quitevis made a crucial steal with 11.7 seconds left to seal Ateneo's victory, and Andrew Bongo led the team with 14 points and seven rebounds.

Ateneo’s offensive rebounding and defensive resilience helped them overcome UST despite playing without star big man Mo Tounkara.

With this win, Ateneo is now within striking distance of a UAAP men's basketball Final Four slot, holding the tiebreaker against Adamson Soaring Falcons.
