Arellano beats San Beda 72-70 in NCAA men's semis

Arellano University secured a narrow victory over San Beda University with a score of 72-70 in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 100 men's basketball semifinal bid on Saturday at San Juan Arena.

Lorenz Capulong and T-Mc Ongotan led Arellano with 14 points each, while Ernest Geronimo and Renzo Abiera contributed 12 and nine points respectively.

San Beda's Jomel Puno scored a career-high 20 points but it was not enough to secure the win for his team, who suffered their third loss in six games.

Arellano improved their record to 2-5, tying them with San Sebastian College-Recoletos Stags after going on an 11-to-3 spurt late in the game.

San Beda's Yulkien Andrada made a crucial three-pointer in the final seconds but fell short of completing the comeback as James Payosing missed his attempt to tie the game.

Arellano coach Chico Manabat praised his team's commitment and effort against the defending champion.
