PGH calls for more COVID-19 survivor plasma donations

The Philippine Red Cross and the Philippine General Hospital are calling for recovered COVID-19 patients to donate blood as their plasma contains antibodies that may help treat severely ill patients.

Dr. Jonas del Rosario of PGH explained in an interview that convalescent plasma transfusions from recovered individuals can 'neutralize' the virus in sick patients.

The PRC is awaiting guidelines for the procedure, while PGH has already treated three COVID-19 patients with donated plasma and observed improvements in other cases at St. Luke's Medical Center.

Seven survivors have already donated blood to PGH, and more are encouraged to help those still battling the virus.
