Shear line, ITCZ, Amihan bring scattered rains nationwide

Scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms are expected nationwide on Sunday, December 29, due to the shear line, the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), and the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan).

Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Aurora, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms due to the shear line affecting eastern Luzon, with potential for flash floods or landslides from moderate to heavy rains.

Visayas, the rest of Mimaropa, the rest of Bicol Region, Zamboanga del Norte, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur can expect cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the ITCZ affecting Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao, also with a possibility of flash floods or landslides.

The rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, with flash floods or landslides possible during severe thunderstorms.

PAGASA forecasts heavy to intense rains of 100 to 200 mm in Cagayan and Isabela.

Moderate to heavy rains of 50 to 100 mm are forecast for Apayao, Kalinga, Quirino, Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Palawan, Eastern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Norte.

Most parts of Luzon will experience cloudy skies and rains brought by the northeast monsoon and shear line, with Cagayan Valley and Cordillera regions likely to have light to moderate rains.

The Ilocos region and western Central Luzon are expected to have generally fair weather but may still experience cloudy skies and isolated light rains due to the northeast monsoon.
