PNP deploys 37,000 cops for New Year security

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has mobilized 37,000 officers nationwide for heightened security during New Year celebrations.

PNP Chief General Rommel Francisco Marbil stressed the importance of vigilance against fireworks, fire hazards, and revelry-related accidents.

Officers are instructed to be ready to assist in any emergency, including providing first aid, and mobile units are equipped with fire safety devices and first aid kits.

In the National Capital Region, over 10,000 officers are deployed in key areas such as terminals, malls, and churches.

The public is urged to report suspicious activities to authorities.

The PNP warns against unsafe New Year activities like burning tires and blocking roads, which may lead to sanctions and hinder emergency response.

Marbil advised the public to observe fireworks in designated zones, and the PNP-Civil Security Group identified 28 prohibited firecrackers.
