PNP: Philippines welcomes 2025 peacefully amid firecracker crackdown

The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported that the Philippines welcomed 2025 in a "generally and relatively peaceful" way with no major untoward incidents.

During the anti-illegal firecracker drive, the PNP confiscated illegal firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices worth P3,922,678, with 593,094 pieces seized in 1,360 cases.

A total of 73 individuals were arrested in connection with illegal firecrackers.

Additionally, the police recorded 27 cases of indiscriminate firing, resulting in five injuries, 21 arrests, and the confiscation of 17 firearms.

Among those arrested for indiscriminate firing were 18 civilians, a security guard, a police officer from Calabarzon, and a Bureau of Corrections officer from Zamboanga Peninsula.

The PNP also reported six stray bullet injuries and one death due to firecrackers, in addition to 297 firecracker-related injuries.
