OWWA assists thousands of stranded OFWs in Metro Manila

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) is assisting thousands of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who are stranded in Metro Manila due to the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and are completing their mandatory 14-day quarantine period.

OWWA Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac stated that approximately 4,000 to 5,000 OFWs are waiting to be transported back to the Visayas and Mindanao.

The agency is coordinating with the Department of Transportation (DOTR) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to arrange 'mercy flights' or voyages for these stranded OFWs.

Cacdac also mentioned that seafarers and domestic workers who were unable to depart Metro Manila are receiving assistance from OWWA.

To date, OWWA has provided aid to nearly 6,000 stranded OFWs, offering food, temporary shelter, and transportation.

Additionally, OWWA will assist 600 OFWs arriving from Kuwait by providing accommodation and support until they can travel to their home provinces.
