DFA, OWWA repatriate 247 Filipino seafarers from Germany

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) continue to facilitate the repatriation of overseas Filipinos affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

On April 8, 247 Filipino seafarers arrived from Germany via a chartered flight arranged by their local manning agencies, the MS Amadea and MS Amera crew members.

These seafarers are the third batch of repatriates from the MS Amadea, with earlier arrivals on April 5 and 7.

On April 7, 58 Filipino seafarers from the Carnival Panorama cruise ship docked in California arrived in Manila.

Additionally, 1,045 overseas workers returned on Tuesday night, including 343 from various Carnival ships and 644 undocumented workers from Kuwait.

The DFA reported that 6,700 distressed OFWs have been repatriated since the pandemic began.

As of April 7, there were 569 confirmed COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad, with 65 deaths, 346 undergoing treatment, and 158 recoveries.
