OCTA: Metro Manila COVID-19 cases rise, reproduction rate up

The OCTA Research Team observed an upward trend in COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila, with the reproduction number increasing to 1.22.

The average number of new COVID-19 cases in the National Capital Region over the past three days is 563 per day, an increase of 45% compared to the previous week.

The positivity rate in the region also increased to 5% over the past seven days, the first time it has exceeded 5% since November 2020.

This increase may be attributed to gatherings related to the Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day, and potentially the involvement of a SARS-CoV2 variant.

Pasay City experienced a significant spike, nearly doubling its daily new case reports to an average of 44, placing it in the high-risk category and leading to a localized lockdown.
