DOH logs 1,901 new COVID-19 cases, detects new mutations in Cebu

The Philippines recorded 1,901 new COVID-19 infections on Friday, bringing the total case count to 557,058.

The DOH reported 537 new recoveries and 157 additional deaths, increasing the total number of recoveries to 512,789 and the death toll to 11,829.

Six duplicate cases were removed from the total case count, and 120 cases previously marked as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

There are currently 32,440 active cases, with the majority being mild.

Data from the DOH shows that 65% of the country's intensive care unit beds are available while 80% of the mechanical ventilators are ready for use.

The Philippine Genome Center detected two coronavirus mutations of concern in samples from Cebu, which are common in the South African variant.
