Makati builds more quarantine facilities amid COVID-19 surge

Makati City has begun constructing additional emergency quarantine facilities to increase its capacity for COVID-19 patients and persons under investigation (PUIs).

Mayor Abby Binay announced that three of these facilities will be built at Pembo Elementary School and one at the Ospital ng Makati parking area, with completion expected immediately.

The construction is a collaboration between the city government and private sector donors, including WTA Architecture and Design Studio, which designed the modular structures.

Each facility will feature 15 beds, sanitation areas, a testing box, and a lounge for nurses, constructed from wooden frames and polyethylene sheets.

This initiative aims to ensure that no PUIs are turned away from hospitals and to provide safe isolation spaces for symptomatic individuals.

Previously, Makati City converted the Makati Friendship Suites into a quarantine facility for 100 PUIs and established isolation areas in barangay health centers.
