Makabayan bloc calls for VP Duterte impeachment

The Makabayan Coalition has initiated a call for the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte, citing her statements on potential assassination plots and alleged misuse of confidential funds.

Over 50 members of the coalition protested in front of the House of Representatives, demanding Duterte's impeachment and imprisonment.

These calls coincide with ongoing House committee hearings into the alleged misuse of confidential funds by the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education.

Duterte had previously stated that she had arranged for the assassination of President Marcos Jr., his wife, and Speaker Romualdez should she herself be killed, a statement Malacañang described as an "active threat."

Some lawmakers dismissed her remarks as "desperate lies" to avoid accountability for the alleged misuse of P612.5 million in confidential funds.

Independent political analyst Atty. Michael Yusingco suggested Duterte should be investigated by the Ombudsman for plunder and death threats rather than impeachment.

The House of Representatives reportedly doubled security following Duterte's claim about tapping a hitman for Romualdez.

Duterte stated her remark against Marcos was "maliciously taken out of logical context."
