VP Duterte faces impeachment rap over alleged threat

House Assistant Majority Leader Jefferson Khonghun stated that Vice President Sara Duterte's alleged threat to have President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and Speaker Martin Romualdez killed could be grounds for impeachment.

Khonghun clarified that the House has not formally discussed filing an impeachment case against the Vice President due to its packed legislative work.

House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability Chairperson Rep. Joel Chua stated that no conclusions have been reached regarding the matter, and the committee is continuing its work.

The Vice President is also under congressional scrutiny for the alleged misuse of PHP612.5 million in confidential and intelligence funds allocated to her office and the Department of Education during her tenure as education secretary in 2022 and 2023.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has issued a subpoena to Vice President Duterte, requiring her to provide an explanation for her alleged threat to assassinate Marcos Jr. and is investigating her for grave threats and potential violations of the anti-terrorism act.
