LPA enters PAR, may become first tropical cyclone of 2025

A low pressure area (LPA) has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and has a medium chance of developing into the country's first tropical cyclone of 2025, to be named Auring.

As of 3 PM Friday, the LPA was located 340 kilometers east-northeast of Virac, Catanduanes.

The LPA's trough is causing scattered rain and thunderstorms in the Bicol Region, eastern portions of Visayas and Mindanao.

Heavy rainfall of 50 to 100 millimeters is expected in Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Antique, and Palawan in the next 24 hours.

The LPA is moving northwestward, potentially bringing moderate to heavy rains over Luzon, including Central Luzon and Metro Manila, in the coming days.

The state weather bureau had raised the LPA's chance of cyclone development from 'low' to 'medium' on Thursday.
